Can we introduce you to the guys who make up Space Invadas?
Katalyst is the Sydney based producer Ashley Anderson. His solo releases have all been ARIA nominated and established a strong fan base for his work. He also runs the Invada label with Portishead's Geoff Barrow
Vocalist Steve Spacek landed in Sydney via London and LA having worked with J Dilla, Slum Village and Common. Steve’s got that Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye thing going on and has been championed by everyone from Entertainment Weekly to Mos Def. Giles Peterson from BBC1 called him "the voice of modern soul".
Working together as Space Invadas they mix bonafide soul with laid back hip hop to create a futuristic genre-bending sound.
"Soul- Fi" is their debut album, featuring a trio of tracks that have already been added to Triple J's playlist: ‘Original’, ‘Life’ and ‘Done It Again’
Guests on the album include Buff 1 (Detroit), Dank ('Frank & Dank' from J-Dilla's crew in Detroit), Jade Macrae, RuCL and Fantine.
As well as receiving much love here in Australia on Triple J , taste makers Benji B (Radio One Xtra), Giles Peterson (Radio One) and key DJs on KCRW (Los Angeles) have been championing the record on air abroad.
